Dave Levin has transformed American education through his role as co-founder of both KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) and Relay Graduate School of Education. After graduating from Yale University and teaching fifth grade in Houston with Teach For America, he co-founded KIPP with Mike Feinberg in 1994, establishing KIPP Academy in the South Bronx the following year. As Superintendent of KIPP NYC until 2012, he helped develop the network into one of America's most promising educational initiatives, now serving nearly 125,000 students nationwide. His innovative approach to education, particularly in character development, has earned numerous prestigious accolades, including the Presidential Citizen's Medal, the Charles Bronfman Prize, and an honorary degree from Yale University. Currently leading the KIPP Teaching and Learning Labs team at the KIPP Foundation, his work continues to influence educational practices nationwide, particularly in character development and teaching methodology. His achievements have been documented in Jay Matthews' book "Work Hard, Be Nice" and his approach to character development is featured in Paul Tough's "How Children Succeed," establishing his legacy as a transformative figure in American education
