James Won-Ki Hong is a prominent professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) and serves as the Director of the Center for Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Research. With a rich academic background, he earned his HBSc and MSc degrees in Computer Science from the University of Western Ontario and completed his PhD at the University of Waterloo. Before rejoining POSTECH, where he has been a faculty member since 1995, he held significant leadership roles, including Chief Technology Officer and Senior Executive Vice President at KT Corporation, where he spearheaded R&D initiatives in software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV). His extensive experience includes co-founding startups focused on advanced networking technologies and serving in various capacities within IEEE and other professional organizations. Hong's research interests encompass blockchain technology, network management, and online education, making him a pivotal figure in advancing both academic and practical applications of computer science in Korea and beyond.
