Dr. Jarrod Goentzel is the Founder and Director of the MIT Humanitarian Supply Chain Lab and Principal Research Scientist at MIT's Center for Transportation & Logistics, where he leads groundbreaking research in humanitarian logistics and supply chain management. After earning his Ph.D. from Georgia Tech's School of Industrial and Systems Engineering, he joined MIT in 2003 to establish the Zaragoza Logistics Center in Spain, the first node in the MIT Global SCALE Network. His research focuses on developing better supply chain management systems, information systems, and decision support technology to meet human needs in resource-constrained settings. Through extensive fieldwork and engagement with private sector, government agencies, and humanitarian organizations across multiple continents, he has pioneered approaches to improve emergency response efforts and strengthen vulnerable community supply chains. His contributions to education include creating innovative residential and online courses in humanitarian logistics, international operations, and supply chain finance, while using simulation games to build leadership skills. Before his current role, he served as Executive Director of MIT's Supply Chain Management Program, demonstrating his commitment to both practical application and academic excellence in supply chain management.
