Anya Schiffrin, currently serving as the director of the Technology, Media, and Communications specialization at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, brings a wealth of experience from her diverse career in journalism and academia. Her impressive background includes a decade of international journalism experience across Europe and Asia, where she worked as a financial writer for The Industry Standard, bureau chief for Dow Jones Newswires in Amsterdam and Hanoi, and held editorial positions in Istanbul. As a Knight-Bagehot Fellow at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, she developed expertise in global media studies and journalism education. Her academic contributions include significant research on journalism sustainability, media capture in the digital age, and the impact of digital platforms on news publishers. Schiffrin's influence extends beyond the classroom through her role on the advisory board of the Open Society Foundation's Program on Independent Journalism and her editorial work on "Global Muckraking: 100 Years of Investigative Reporting from Around the World."
