Dr. Kenneth Carter is a Charles Howard Candler Professor of Psychology at Oxford College of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where he actively engages in research and teaching. With over 20 years of experience as a psychotherapist and researcher, Dr. Carter has received accolades from prestigious institutions, including the National Institutes of Health and the University of Michigan. Before his tenure at Emory, he served as a Senior Assistant Research Scientist in the Epidemic Intelligence Service at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, focusing on the correlation between smoking and suicidal behaviors in adolescents. Additionally, he works to make psychological research accessible to the public, having contributed to publications like Mental Floss and Readers Digest, and appeared on programs such as NBC’s Today show. Dr. Carter is also the author of the psychology textbook Learn Psychology, published by Jones and Bartlett Learning. He earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1993, and completed a postdoctoral master’s in clinical psychopharmacology from Farleigh Dickinson University in 2007.

Kristin Wendland is a Professor of Pedagogy in the Department of Music at Emory University in Atlanta, where she teaches undergraduate music theory and history and culture classes at all levels. With over fifteen years of extensive work in Argentine tango, she has developed courses on tango music and dance, established the Emory Tango Ensemble— for which she arranges music and provides coaching—and co-authored Tracing Tangueros: Argentine Tango Instrumental Music with Kacey Link (Oxford, 2016). Throughout nearly two decades of annual travel to Buenos Aires, Wendland received a Fulbright Lecture and Research grant in 2005, organized two professional development institutes on Argentine tango through the College Music Society in 2007 and 2009, and directed a three-week Emory Tango Music and Dance Summer Study Abroad Program in July 2011.

Lisa A. Macklin joined Emory University in 2005 and became the first Director of the Scholarly Communications Office (formerly the Libraries Intellectual Property Rights Office) in 2007. In this capacity, she collaborates with faculty, students, and staff to navigate the application of copyright law in teaching, research, and publishing, as detailed on the Emory Scholarly Communications website. Her research interests encompass the transformations in scholarship and publishing, including emerging digital scholarship models and the Open Access movement.

Dr. Lynn Sibley is a Professor in the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing at Emory University, with joint appointments in the Rollins School of Public Health’s Hubert Department of Global Health and an affiliate role in the Department of Anthropology. As a nurse-midwife and anthropologist, Dr. Sibley has dedicated her career to reducing maternal and newborn mortality in low-resource settings around the world through community-level research and programming.

Dr. Melinda Higgins holds dual degrees in Chemometrics and Statistics and brings over 25 years of research experience specializing in pattern recognition, characterization, and modeling of high-dimensional, multivariate datasets. Her expertise extends to providing comprehensive statistical and data management consultation for faculty and students at all stages of research.

Michael J Kuhar, PhD, is Professor of Neuropharmacology in the Yerkes Research Center of Emory University. His general areas of interest include the brain, its structure and function, neuropsychiatric disease, and addicting drugs. He is one of the most highly cited scientists world-wide. He has trained a large cadre of students, fellows and visitors, received a number of prestigious awards, and remains involved in many aspects of research and education.

Dr. Pablo Palomino, a cultural historian trained at the University of Buenos Aires, UC Berkeley, and the University of Chicago, specializes in the oral history of state terror and political violence in Argentina. He is currently completing a book on the history of Latin American music. Dr. Palomino teaches and conducts research at Oxford College of Emory University.

Dr. Pamela Scully is a Professor of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and African Studies at Emory University. She is the co-author of Sara Baartman and the Hottentot Venus: A Ghost Story and a Biography and is working on a biography of Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. Her research focuses on sexual violence, transitional justice, and feminist theory. Dr. Scully directs Emory’s Center for Faculty Development and Excellence, teaches courses on gender and justice, and collaborates with The Carter Center on poverty and development issues. She also serves on the editorial boards of several academic journals

Dr. Sharon Bergquist is a Senior Distinguished Clinician and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine, where she has been a faculty member since 2000. Specializing in internal medicine, her research focuses on healthy aging, disease prevention, and lifestyle medicine. She directs Emory's Executive Health Program and founded Emory Lifestyle Medicine & Wellness. Dr. Bergquist holds a B.S. in biophysics and biochemistry from Yale and an M.D. from Harvard. She frequently contributes to media outlets and hosts The Whole Health Cure podcast.
